Ballet Arizona’s Annual Gala

On January 19, more than 350 guests decked out in their finest evening attire gathered at Phoenix Art Museum in support of Ballet Arizona’s annual fundraiser, Dance With Me. The elegant event raised more than $510,000 to support the Ballet’s artistic and community programming.

Daryl Weil served as chair and Adrienne Schiffner was the co-chair. The Prima Ballerina Committee included Carol Clemmensen, Gwen Hillis, Barbara Ottosen, Julie Prusak, Carol Schilling and Lauri Termansen.

The Gala Committee members were Joan Berry, Kai Binford, Julie Bowe, Pat Bondurant, Lisa Dale, Teresa DeLellis, Kate Fassett, Lindsay Fletcher, Susie Fowls, Stephanie Goodman, Molly Greene, Kate Groves, Linda Harold, Cathie Hullverson, Kory Leadon, Jan Lewis, Linda Lindgren, , Dennita Sewell, Nancy Spetzler, Linda Srere, Susie Vandevier and Susan Whitaker.

The evening highlighted the February production of Cinderella. As guests entered the lobby, Cinderella’s carriage, as well as costumes from the upcoming ballet, were on display. Attendees were treated to excerpts from Cinderella by both company dancers and students from the School of Ballet Arizona.

Valley philanthropists Rose and Harry Papp were honored for their longtime   support of Ballet Arizona. The couple’s unwavering commitment to other local performing and visual arts and nonprofit organizations includes Phoenix Art Museum, Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix Zoo, Arizona Opera, The Phoenix Symphony, Heard Museum and Girl Scouts, Arizona Cactus-Pine Council.

Highlighting the passion, hard work and dedication that is needed to pursue a professional career in dance, Artistic Director Ib Andersen presented the newly established Hazel Hare Award for Artistic Excellence to dancers Jillian Barrell and Ethan Price. The award honors Hazel Hare for her transformational $4 million legacy gift given to Ballet Arizona.

Guests enjoyed cocktails and a gourmet sit-down dinner. Following tradition and defining the Gala title, Dance With Me, the evening continued as guests partnered with Ballet Arizona dancers to dance the night away.
