Held at the Arizona Biltmore on January 20, the Barrow Grand Ball 2018 was attended by more than 300 supporters. The black-tie event was co-chaired by Jan Cacheris and Carrie Hall. A huge success, the 2018 Ball raised $3 million.
Each year the Barrow Grand Ball celebrates the philanthropic achievements of the Barrow Women’s Board. Founded in 1965 to raise money for research at Barrow Neurological Institute, the Women’s Board of Barrow Neurological Foundation has evolved into one of the most successful fundraising entities in the Valley and the largest donor to Barrow.
As a part of their annual fundraising effort to benefit Barrow, the Women’s Board chooses a special project for collective support. For 2018, the board selected Alzheimer’s disease research. In the past, donations from the ball have supported medical research for the treatment of brain tumors, aneurysms, migraines, concussions, stroke, degenerative disc disease, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s, ALS and many other debilitating disorders.
Dr. Robert Spetzler, former Barrow president and CEO, praised the impact of this dynamic group. “I think, without the Women’s Board, BNI would not exist as it is today,” says Spetzler. “They have been a source of both spiritual and monetary support which has been pivotal in making BMI the large research enterprise that it is today.”
