The Culinary Classic Moves to The Garden

The Devour Culinary Classic, organized by Local First Arizona (LFA) with support from the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA), has become the Valley’s premier culinary event. For a decade, Classic attendees have enjoyed sampling only the highest quality and most innovative food, beverages from restaurateurs, chefs and food producers while perusing the grounds of Phoenix Art Museum.

“After planning the 2017 Devour Culinary Classic, it became apparent that a new venue was needed to accommodate the growth and popularity of the event,” explains Kimber Lanning, founder and director of LFA. “Desert Botanical Garden is an Arizona treasure, and their expansive venue and community commitment makes them the perfect venue to allow us to expand the Devour Culinary Classic while still maintaining an intimate atmosphere.”

“Just like all the participants in the Devour Culinary Classic, the Garden is proud to fly the ‘locally grown’ flag,” says Desert Botanical Garden director Ken Schutz.

The Bartending Competition

Kick off Devour Week on February 25 and celebrate the best of local cocktail culture at Desoto Central Market. From 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., root for your favorite bartenders from the Devour Phoenix Coalition of restaurants as you sip on their competition creations and listen to the event being called by downtown Phoenix favorite personality RJ Price of Downtown Phoenix, Inc. Facing a celebrity lineup of judges and armed with a selection of Arizona’s best locally distilled spirits provided by Hensley/Quench, your favorite bartenders will be up on stage shaking it up. The fee of $40 will benefit the non-profit work of Local First Arizona Foundation.

Seven Chefs Dinner

On February 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., join the James Beard hosted “Arizona Seven” for a one-night-only dining event. In the fields and under the stars at Tempe’s Singh Meadows, the featured chefs are Justin Beckett, Donald Hawk, Scott Holmes, Bernie Kantak, Danielle Leoni and Doug Robson. Enjoy a farm-fresh feast paired with Arizona wines and served by some of Arizona’s top chefs on an organic oasis. New this year, our theme is one of unity and shared cultural identity. Fifteen Arizona chefs have come together to pair up and create seven different courses for guests to experience. Priced at $160, proceeds benefit the non-profit work of Local First Arizona Foundation.
