This year, make an educated decision about which top notes deserve space on your top shelf. Whether you’re after something totally natural, utterly exotic, or playfully fresh, scroll on for the dozen best new fragrance launches of the season. All fragrances are available at Barneys New York.

THE NATURALISTS: These clean brands ditch synthetics in favor of raw, natural materials that come together to create truly special fragrances.

FRAGRANCE 1: Ormaie, Les Brumes

THE NOTES: Top notes of lemon, mandarin, bergamot, and ginger are finished with a woody base.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL: All-natural fragrance line Ormie come in bottles crafted from a sustainable glassmaker with decorative tops whittled from beech trees cut from renewable forests. The thoughtfully designed fragrance will brings as much joy as a decorative object on one’s dresser as it does to wear.

FRAGRANCE 2: Goldfield & Banks Southern Bloom

THE NOTES: Floral and woody fragrance featuring a smooth, green notes.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL: Goldfield & Banks is a newly launched, luxury perfume line inspired by the unique fragrances of its native Australia. Southern Bloom takes its name from the rare, exquisitely scented Boronia flower found off the coast of Bruny Island in Tasmania.

FRAGRANCE 3: D.S. & Durga, Amber Teutonic Eau De Parfum

THE NOTES: Alpine cedar, cardamom, and green mandarin are paired with a base of Austrian pine, opoponax, and musk.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL: This unisex, handcrafted scent blends woody and spicy notes in a way that is harmonious and pleasingly unexpected. A truly special scent from a truly special brand, it’s greenish color separates it from other fragrances by the brand.

FRAGRANCE 4: Heretic, Dirty Rose

THE NOTES: Rose de mai and damask rose are juxtaposed with citrusy bergamot, spicy pepper, and juicy apricot notes.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL: Founded a few years ago in New York City, Heretic takes a nonconformist approach to fragrance using raw, natural materials to create unique scents that react differently to each individual’s skin chemistry. New this season, Dirty Rose is a complex, nontraditionally feminine and utterly beguiling.

THE EXOTICS: This grouping includes some of the most beguiling, bold new scents of the season—for those seeking to stand out.

FRAGRANCE 1: Serge Lutens Parfums, Le Participe Passé

THE NOTES: Amber, fir balsam, and resin.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL: The latest addition to the Collection Noir from legendary Serge Lutens is rich, enveloping, and warm—sweet but not overly playful. It’s exotic without being overbearing in the slightest.

FRAGRANCE 2: Tiziana Terenzi, Sirrah Extrait De Parfum

THE NOTES: Bouquet of ancient and rare fruits, combined with precious spices and middle notes of amber—finished with rich woods.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL: Third-generation Italian perfume house Tiziana Terenzi creates robust scents that awaken the senses. Brand new Sirrah is technically a men’s fragrance, but its evocative scent is well-suited to anyone seeking an intoxicating signature smell.

FRAGRANCE 3: Frédéric Malle, Dawn

THE NOTES: Oud, pink pepper, cedar, and Turkish rose.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL: Frédéric Malle was inspired by his travels through the Middle East when creating this exquisitely-crafted new scent. The powerful fragrance is developed by Carlos Benaïm and is exclusively available at Barneys.

FRAGRANCE 4: The Harmonist, Yin Transformation

THE NOTES: Floral base notes with layers of sandalwood and white musk.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL: The Harmonist uses rare botanical oils to create unique scents inspired by the five pillars of feng shui: fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. Yin Transformation is inspired by energy moving between Yin and Yang, and the scent itself evolves on the wearer moving from playful and flowery to a creamy musk.

FRAGRANCE 1: Acqua Di Parma, Colonia Artist Edition Eau De Cologne

THE NOTES: Sicilian citrus top notes with middle notes of lavender and rosemary, finished with a sandalwood base.

THE NOTES: Leathery birch notes pair with fruity accents of black currant and Italian bergamot.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL: Technically a men’s fragrance, this sophisticated scent from the family-owned Italian perfume brand is well-suited to women, too. Strong but not overpowering, it’s luxurious while still smelling natural.

FRAGRANCE 3: Aedes De Venustas, Musc Encensé

THE NOTES: Notes of amber, clary sage, cashmeran, musk, and tonka.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL: We love the vintage-inspired decorative bottle almost as much as we love the latest scent from artisanal, New York-based Aedes de Venustas. This sexy fragrance is opulent and subtle at the same time with mysterious hints of incense.
