savings for locals at Valley hotels

Considered the “unofficial” end of summer, Americans traditionally celebrate Labor Day with a three-day weekend that includes visiting friends and family, barbecues and picnics, swimming and parades. Can’t get away? While there’s still time, why not take advantage of one of the many holiday packages being offered by the Valley’s five-star resorts. Here are seven of our favorites.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Superhero Summer at The Fairmont Princess. Over Labor Day weekend set out on an adventure of heroic proportions as families enjoy special superhero-themed activities and photo ops, fireworks and so much more. Kids will enjoy watching dive-in movies, transforming into mermaids, partying at the nighttime water-slide event and attending Superhero Training Academy where they’ll invent original stories and superhero names. With Arizona’s only white sand beach, five sparkling pools* and two rip-roaring waterslides, there’s fun for all. The package starts at $189 per night and includes a daily resort credit of $50 and a charitable donation to support real-life superheroes.

Just a 35-minute drive from downtown Phoenix, but far away from the hustle and bustle, you’ll arrive at Cirvana. Hailed as the only sustainable wellness resort in the Valley, the Carefree Resort is a mini Miraval, only better, with its gourmet cuisine, signature cocktails and unlimited WiFi. After last year’s multimillion-dollar remodel, the entire property exudes a modern take on serenity. Included with the room rate, the resort offers physically and spiritually-focused programming, from beginner hikes and aerial yoga to floating meditations and classes on angel massage. The two-story spa with 29 treatment rooms and a pool deck is so relaxing that you’ll want to linger over wellness elixirs for hours after your energy-aligning chi signature massage. Locals can take advantage of the new Club Membership, which includes unlimited daily classes, access to the spa, fitness center, pools, tennis court and pickleball courts plus discounts on accommodations, spa services and food at fine-dining Terras and casual-dining  Café Meto. The summer promo still applies, so book using the Local Love Package for a 20-percent reduction on your guest room and waived hotel fee.

The surf’s up this Labor Day weekend at Westin Kierland Resort & Spa. Unlimited free FlowRider sessions for all resort guests will be available on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Join Camp Kierland, where kids will experience camp-inspired fun including a cookout at the OK Corral serving unlimited s’mores and savory barbecue. For an additional $35 fee, chill-seekers may cool off in the Adventure Water Park at the Lazy River and on the 110-foot-long Water Slide. Why not splurge on the ultimate experience: a family-friendly, shaded poolside cabana or would you prefer to indulge on your very own Tommy Bahama Relaxation Reef? Complete with beach chairs, this private “island” has exclusive access to a section of the Lazy River. Rates start at $169 per night and include a $50 resort credit and 20-percent off all dining.

Take advantage of this sultry season at Paradise Valley’s newest resort while you still can. Arizona residents can go for one last staycation before September 30 to reap the rewards of a fee-free stay and complimentary valet parking. Mountain Shadows’ Summer Prix Fixe Menu comes to a close on September 1; with it goes unique flavors and three off-menu courses. The menu from Chef Wiley and Chef Muro features a Local Melon Salad, Braised Beef Short Rib and Strawberry Orange Tart, perfect flavors for the season. Indulge in divine cuisine, relaxing yoga and a round of golf with rates as low as $119 a night. Even better, book a two night stay and enjoy the third consecutive night free.

If you’re up for a road trip, head south to Starr Pass. Set atop Mine Mountain overlooking downtown Tucson, the resort has amazing mountain views, a five-star golf course and, just steps from the hotel, access to the state’s lushest saguaro forest. Follow up your two-hour sunrise hike with a much-needed rub-down and rehydration session at the resort’s Hashani Spa and dinner at Mediterranean fine-dining flagship eatery Primo, headed up by James Beard Award-winning chef Melissa Kelly. The summer rate begins at $179 per night. For an additional $10 per day, sign up for the Fling and Sling Package that includes unlimited golf for two and a $50 resort credit.

Live it up this Labor Day weekend with pool parties, extra-special deals through September 30 and mid-century digs at Hotel Valley Ho. Take advantage of the Summer Spa Specials and unwind with a Monsoon Massage + Exfoliation. How about staying overnight? Book the Sweet Suite Deal and enjoy up to 30-percent off the Tower Suite, Loft Suite or Presidential Suite. Two nights are even better: the Stay2Play Package includes an arrival amenity, welcome drinks, complimentary parking  a nightly $20 resort credit and a complimentary room upgrade upon arrival (based on availability). Hey big-spender, invite 30 of your closest friends to join you when you rent the entire BIG Cabana. At this Poppin’ Promo, you’ll receive complimentary bottle service, featuring your choice of Veuve Clicquot Champagne or Belvedere Vodka. Keep your glass full while you enjoy the private hot tub, 65-inch TVs, fans and refrigerators. Summer room rates begin at $99 nightly.

Spend a fun-filled holiday weekend at The Phoenician. Last fall, to the tune of $30 million, the resort completed an amazing and luxurious makeover. The spa was a complete do-over with a rooftop, adults-only pool, immaculate steam rooms and a spacious relaxation area with semi-private lounge beds. Add the remodeled guest rooms, an amazing waterpark, extended-stay casitas and two great dining options in Mowry & Cotton and J& G Steakhouse…well, you might want to move in permanently. The summer rate of $196 per night will be honored through September 2.
