As part of their “Flavors of the World” series, Omni Hotels & Resorts have partnered with Food & Wine Magazine to host a three-day culinary experience devoted to the Rioja region of Spain. The Discover Rioja Weekend is scheduled for September 8-10 at Omni Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Montelucia in Scottsdale.

The all-inclusive weekend will include samplings of wine and cuisine from Rioja, the region in northern Spain known for its full-bodied Tempranillo reds, refreshing roses and treasured whites.

The cuisine of Rioja is of simple origins where the food is a way of life,” explains Executive Chef Marcos Seville. “The ingredients are simple, fresh and from the region itself. We will be highlighting traditional eats from Rioja with a modern twist that will delight the most novice taste buds to the most sophisticated palate.”

The weekend will be filled with events that include wine and food tastings, cooking demonstrations, tapas crawl, brunch, wine-paired lunch, a wine seminar and a five-course, wine-paired dinner.

Sample dishes served throughout the weekend may include:

  • seared scallops with peas and ibérico ham
  • bomba rice with wild mushrooms and idiazabal cheese
  • roasted lamb ribs, sautéed white beans, tomato bread and allioli served family style
  • Gazpacho – chilled tomato, cucumber, and pepper soup
  • Tortilla Española- Spanish potato, onion and egg tortilla
  • Berenjenas Fritas – fried eggplant with rosemary and honey
  • Pinchos Morunos – marinated lamb skewers

Food & Wine’s Executive Wine Editor, Ray Isle, In addition to Omni Montelucia Executive Chef Marcos Seville, Food & Wine’s Executive Wine Editor, Ray Isle and celebrity Chef Katie Button, owner of Cúrate Tapas Bar and Nightbell restaurant in Asheville, North Carolina, will host the weekend events.

The Rioja Weekend Event Schedule

Friday, September 8

7:00 p.m.: Welcome reception with cooking demonstration, tapas and wine tasting in the intimate Chef’s Kitchen, hosted by Food & Wine Editor Ray Isle and Celebrity Chef Katie Button.

Saturday, September 9

11:00 a.m.: Wine-paired lunch and wine seminar hosted by Food & Wine Editor Ray Isle and Executive Chef Marcos Seville.

2:00 p.m.: Self-guided tapas crawl and tasting tour of pop-up food and wine shops throughout the resort.

7:00 p.m.: Cocktail Reception

8:00 p.m.: Five-course dinner hosted at Prado, featuring celebrity chef Katie Button

Sunday, September 10

9:00 a.m.: Rosé Brunch hosted by Executive Chef Marcos Seville in the Camelback Presidential Suite.
