A window at Tiffany & Company, New York City.
When it comes to Christmas, no city does it better than New York. During the holiday season, the town sparkles and everything seems magical. Window shopping is irresistible with displays that are a testament to the creative vision and painstaking effort put forth by retailers. Here are some of the engaging examples now on view.
Barneys New York: Haas for The Holidays
This Madison Avenue luxe brand named its themed windows, Haas for the Holidays, in recognition of the collaboration with brothers Simon and Nikolai Hass. The artists created an imaginative universe that depict different eras, beginning with earth’s creation to the future. The scenes dazzle with LED displays that depict day-to-night animation.
Bergdorf Goodman: To New York With Love
The 2017 holiday windows pay homage to six beloved New York City cultural institutions including the New York Philharmonic, Museum of the Moving Image, New York Botanical Garden, New York Historical Society, Brooklyn Academy of Music and the American Museum of Natural History.
Bloomingdale’s 59th Street: The Greatest Showman
The iconic shopping brand has partnered with both Swarovski and the soon-to-be-released film, The Greatest Showman, starring Hugh Jackman. Each of its holiday windows on Lexington Avenue brings to life the music from the film.
Henri Bendel: Fearless Creators
Bendel’s partnered with Lovepop for its windows designs as intricate 3-D paper sculptures take over the flagship store. Creating a playful and unexpected explosion of color and light, the display is the perfect complement to Henri Bendel’s holiday theme of “fearless creators” – a celebration of risk-takers.
Saks Fifth Avenue: Once Upon A Holiday
Saks Fifth Avenue celebrates the 80th year of Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with its 14 animated holiday window displays. Each window features a different scene from the popular fairytale, including Snow White dancing with the woodland creatures and the Seven Dwarfs returning home from a day’s work in the diamond caves. Featuring a 3-D layering technique, original artwork from the film serve as backdrops.
Tiffany & Company: A Tiffany New York Christmas
Would you expect anything less than dazzling, bejeweled windows from Tiffany’s? Designed by Gene Moore, each window illustrates the magic of gifting a Tiffany keepsake. For example, a mannequin by a lake, surrounded by diamond-dusted trees, is ice-fishing and hooks a brilliant diamond ring. The addition of handcrafted elements add to the charm.
