New Domestic Top-Drawer Hotels

As we approach one-full year of being homebound, it’s fun to think about planning a getaway. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to learn how many new domestic hotel openings and redesigned resorts are on the horizon in upcoming months. From fast-paced Manhattan to California Wine Country to historic Boston’s Back Bay and the sunny shores of Miami, here are properties worth your attention.

The Newbury, Boston

Located in Boston’s tony Back Bay, The Newbury will re-open fresh from a thoughtfully conceived renovation this year with 286 luxurious rooms and suites, many of which boast fireplaces. With a nod to the property’s extensive history playing host to lavish dinners and parties, the hotel partnered with Major Food Group (the powerhouse behind The Grill, Carbone, and more) to helm food and beverage. The rooftop restaurant will plate up sweeping views of the Boston Commons and, in warmer months, slide open for alfresco dining. Head here for the chic decor, the views, and the food; expect dreamy Italian cuisine by Chefs Mario Carbone and Rich Torrisi. Opening March 2021,

Stanly Ranch, Napa Valley

This summer, laidback luxury gets a new home as Auberge Resorts Collection debuts Stanly Ranch, a property that pays homage to the winery estate tradition that has made Napa Valley the stuff of legends. Designed to celebrate the rich heritage of Napa Valley, from its architecture to cuisine, expect gardens, orchards and contemporary design inspired by early farm outposts. The on-site Stanly Ranch Winery that’s been producing notable wines since the late 19th century only adds to the appeal of this opening, and both the property and experiences on offer exude that seemingly effortless Northern California charm. Opening Summer 2021,

The Goodtime Hotel, Miami

This opening is yet another reason to celebrate Miami Beach’s buzzy cultural melting pot. The brainchild of David Grutman and Pharrell Williams, this chic boutique hotel will offer up high-octane experiences synonymous with its namesake. With these two at the helm, expect a spirited dining scene in Strawberry Moon, partnered with an epic soundtrack. As for the design, with renowned designer Ken Fulk taking charge, the property’s vibrant public spaces are set to become a hub of activity and creativity for both locals and visitors alike. Opening March 2021,

Aman New York, New York City

This Spring, Aman New York will transform the crossroads of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. Each utterly elegant room or suite has a working fireplace—a rarity in New York City—with access to extraordinary facilities, including three restaurants, an underground jazz club, and, of course, the Aman Spa. After a year of uncertainty and lockdown, personal well-being is more important than ever, and the property’s flagship Wellness Center will offer a much-needed respite. True to form, the cuisine here will be haute. Expect authentic Italian options at Arva, a take on traditional Japanese washoku dining at Nama, an exclusive wine cellar, and the option to dine on an elegant wraparound terrace with mesmerizing views of Central Park. Opening Spring 2021,

The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern, Los Olivos, California

The Santa Ynez Valley’s sophisticated, yet low-key, feel makes it an apt place to reimagine a fabled landmark like The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern. Auberge Resorts Collection refreshed the property, where rooms and cottage-style set-ups merge the simplicity of modern farmhouse design with the eclecticism of ranch life. A revamped food and beverage program celebrates seasonality with interesting culinary experiences, from a coffee bar porch to an open-air restaurant with county fair vibes. A welcoming place to gather (albeit in small groups for now) with family or new friends, the pool and poolside bar, cabanas, and firepits blend seamlessly into the beautiful landscape. Opening Summer 2021,

Amrit Palm Beach, Singer Island, Florida

Singer Island, a discreet enclave a few minutes’ drive from glamorous Palm Beach, has always held an in-the-know appeal. This year, the Amrit Resort & Residences, a wellness-focused reprieve, will open here with 155 guest rooms, each boasting ocean views. Expect a massive wellness center with hydrothermal experiences, cryotherapy, salt therapy rooms—the works, really. Founder Dilip Barot’s vision was to make the Amrit a place to find inner peace and happiness, a veritable oasis focused on physical and mental health. Expect complimentary naturopaths, nutritionists, acupuncturists, osteopaths, IV specialists, and more on-site. Opening Spring/Sumer 2021,

Montage Big Sky, Montana

There’s a wilderness retreat—and then there’s being situated at the heart of a 3,500-acre Spanish Peaks enclave. Inspired by its natural setting (and what a setting it is), the Montage Big Sky is all about giving you everything you need—along with space, facilities, and time to enjoy it. The property is ski-in, ski-out—a plus for anyone who plans to spend the snowy months on the mountain. In the spring and summer, guests can enjoy the property’s golf course, as well as the area’s supreme fly-fishing. Whether you’re staying here to enjoy the great outdoors in warmer weather or are after a luxe après-ski experience, prepare to spend most of your evenings dining in-house; this hotel plans to open with an array of dining and bar options on the property, featuring the region’s mountain fare and more. Opening 2021,

Bishop’s Lodge, Santa Fe

Santa Fe is brimming with charm, and this spring will see the opening of Bishop’s Lodge, a soulful retreat from Auberge Resorts Collection tucked into 317 discreet acres bordering the National Forest. This landmark property will tap the Lodge’s glorious setting and heritage (formerly the Pulitzer family’s private residence) with nature-fueled adventures and ancient healing arts. Yes, there will be sumptuous accommodations, but they will be paired with amenities that offer a sense of place, from outdoor gardens, a healing arts studio, a fine art gallery, and even an on-site trout habitat and horse stable. Cara Hotel, Los Feliz, California

Los Feliz has emerged as a noteworthy neighborhood in Los Angeles, with a burgeoning restaurant scene and an undeniable cool factor.
